Thoughts:

This piece haunted me. Continuing to seek some kind of just perfect piece, I found myself growing increasingly distant from the work. When I returned to the piece after 4 months away from my studio, I completed it in 10 days. That strange self-consciousness fled and the work just flowed. Difficult issues like the trailing hand worked themselves out. The addition of the small table was an afterthought. I feel it connects the figure to a sense of place, grounding it in the moment.
